Solar Energy

Alongside wind energy, solar energy is the second important cornerstone for a sustainable energy supply in the future. It enables the provision of electrical energy and heat close to where the energy is needed.

The central player in solar energy research at Leibniz Universität Hannover is the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH), an affiliated institute of LUH. Innovative components for the photovoltaic and solar thermal use of solar energy are developed there. The focus is on physical understanding and generalizable technological findings as well as the development of cost-effective processes. The manufactured components are tested in energy systems, as it is the behavior in the system that determines the success of a development. The system itself is a particularly important part of the research work.
