Lecture Series 'Energy System Transformation'


The lecture series aims to shed light on the transformation process of the energy system from different perspectives and to outline problems and approaches to solutions. 

The use of energy and its impact on people and the environment is one of the most important issues facing our society. The transformation of an energy system that is essentially based on fossil fuels to an energy system that relies on renewable energies raises technical and social questions.

The lecture series aims to discuss ethical, historical, sociological and technical issues relating to the current transformation of the German energy system and to outline problems and possible solutions. The lecture series aims to strengthen interdisciplinary networking in the field of energy research at the university and present new scientific findings on the energy transition and climate protection to a wider audience. In this way, a deeper understanding of the generation and use of sustainable energy and insights into current research can be provided.

The lecture series will discuss aspects of sustainable development (Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs), in particular the goal for affordable and clean energy (SDG-7). However, challenges relating to climate protection (SDG-13), life under water and on land (SDG-14, SDG-15), which arise from the extraction and use of energy sources, will also be addressed.

Speakers from various scientific fields from research, business, society and politics are invited to the lecture series. The lecture is followed by a discussion in which all participants can participate. Students have the opportunity to have the event recognized in the respective credit point system of their faculty.

Host and organizer

The lecture series is organized by the Institute for Electrical Energy Systems (IFES) together with the Leibniz Research Center Energy 2050 (LiFE 2050), the Green Office and other research institutions of Leibniz University as well as the VDI Bezirksverein Hannover eV - Arbeitskreis Energietechnik and the Energie Forschungszentrum Niedersachsen (EFZN).
